Mentoring
What Our Mentors Do at Alchemy Services
Trauma-Informed Mentoring
Our mentors provide safe, consistent, and supportive relationships for children, young people, and adults. Every mentor is trained in trauma-informed practice, meaning they respond with empathy, patience, and understanding, always prioritising the wellbeing of the person they support.
Building Connection, Control, and Competence
At the heart of mentoring is the 3 C’s of human needs:
-
Connection: building trust and healthy relationships.
-
Control: empowering choice, independence, and self-direction.
-
Competence: helping individuals build skills, confidence, and resilience.
Practical Support
Mentors walk alongside people in their day-to-day lives, providing:
-
Routine Support: developing structure around mornings, evenings, and daily living tasks.
-
School & Learning Engagement: assisting with attendance, focus, and advocacy in education settings.
-
Appointments & Transport: supporting access to healthcare, therapies, and community services.
-
Community & Social Skills: encouraging safe participation in clubs, activities, and friendships.
-
Respite & Breaks: offering caregivers relief while providing meaningful experiences for the young person.
Creative Programs & Activities
Mentors also facilitate Alchemy’s youth groups and school holiday activities, engaging young people in fun, skill-building experiences that foster resilience, teamwork, and personal growth.
Advocacy & Guidance
Mentors help children and young people find their voice. They advocate for their needs, guide them in problem-solving, and support them in navigating challenges.
✨ In short: Our mentors are role models, support workers, and trusted guides. They combine compassion with practical strategies to help individuals thrive – at home, at school, and in the community.
